About the role
- Provides adequate engineering supervision to contractors involved in highly complex construction projects.
- Provides engineering solutions to design problems and unique conditions involving new construction techniques.
- Maintains adequate project records and coordinates multi-job projects so that they adhere to schedules.
- Resolves complaints from private citizens and local government agencies regarding project inconveniences.
- Ensures proper safety usage and traffic control by contractors.
- Provides and maintains a safe work environment for subordinate personnel.
- Trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinate personnel.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
- Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois
- Four years of experience in civil engineering
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering
- Thorough knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to the design, construction, and maintenance of public works
- Knowledge of plans and specifications for construction projects including highways, streets, and structures
- Ability to supervise the work of other engineers and technicians
- Ability to perform difficult technical research and make comprehensive recommendations on engineering problems
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Requires a valid driver’s license
- Requires districtwide travel
- Requires successful completion of a background screening
