About the role
- Assisting in the drafting and designing of complex highway plans using sophisticated state of the art computer aided design and drafting (CADD) equipment
- Identifying and resolving CADD system problems
- Conducting training and support for the CADD design system
- Aiding designers in producing timely, correctly drafted highway plans
- Maintaining district standards and a variety of district use maps
- Creating exhibits and other special projects as requested from bureaus.
- Assisting the CADD Supervisor in the development and presentation of the district training program
- Accurately processing, merging, and manipulating Digital Terrain Modeling (DTM) models for use in projects
- Processing, converting and transferring CADD data throughout the Bureaus of Program Development, Project Implementation and Operations as needed.
- Reviewing consultant submittals and preparing data for consultants.
- Performing duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
Requirements
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR six years of engineering experience
- Knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to the design of public works
- Working knowledge of CADD software (OpenRoads Designer, Power GEOPAK)
- Ability to learn and adapt to new processes
- Experience with presenting training to users
- Ability to troubleshoot issues
- Working knowledge of GIS
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Successful completion of a background check.
