About the role

  • Assisting in the drafting and designing of complex highway plans using sophisticated state of the art computer aided design and drafting (CADD) equipment
  • Identifying and resolving CADD system problems
  • Conducting training and support for the CADD design system
  • Aiding designers in producing timely, correctly drafted highway plans
  • Maintaining district standards and a variety of district use maps
  • Creating exhibits and other special projects as requested from bureaus.
  • Assisting the CADD Supervisor in the development and presentation of the district training program
  • Accurately processing, merging, and manipulating Digital Terrain Modeling (DTM) models for use in projects
  • Processing, converting and transferring CADD data throughout the Bureaus of Program Development, Project Implementation and Operations as needed.
  • Reviewing consultant submittals and preparing data for consultants.
  • Performing duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR six years of engineering experience
  • Knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to the design of public works
  • Working knowledge of CADD software (OpenRoads Designer, Power GEOPAK)
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new processes
  • Experience with presenting training to users
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues
  • Working knowledge of GIS
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
