About the role
- Assisting the Laboratory Supervisor and Senior Laboratory Technician in conducting laboratory testing of all soils, aggregates, Portland Cement Concrete (PCC), and Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) samples
- Ensure that tested materials conform to requirements of current Standard Specifications and Special Provisions
- Calibrating, operating, and maintaining various lab equipment
- Ensuring samples received are tested and reported with completeness, accuracy, and timeliness
- Maintaining familiarity with latest changes in specifications and testing procedures
- Supervising the laboratory in absence of Laboratory Supervisor and other Technicians
- Issuing, receiving, repairing, and calibrating field testing equipment
Requirements
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS 30 months of engineering experience OR 6 years of engineering experience
- Working knowledge of materials testing and laboratory testing equipment
- Knowledge of QC/QA program and familiar with HMA, PCC
- Ability to operate physical laboratory testing equipment
- Valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of IDOT training programs within 24 months of assuming the position
- Occasional districtwide travel, travel to Missouri labs and seasonal shiftwork possible
- Ability to successfully pass a background check
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical.
