About the role

  • Assisting the Laboratory Supervisor and Senior Laboratory Technician in conducting laboratory testing of all soils, aggregates, Portland Cement Concrete (PCC), and Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) samples
  • Ensure that tested materials conform to requirements of current Standard Specifications and Special Provisions
  • Calibrating, operating, and maintaining various lab equipment
  • Ensuring samples received are tested and reported with completeness, accuracy, and timeliness
  • Maintaining familiarity with latest changes in specifications and testing procedures
  • Supervising the laboratory in absence of Laboratory Supervisor and other Technicians
  • Issuing, receiving, repairing, and calibrating field testing equipment

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS 30 months of engineering experience OR 6 years of engineering experience
  • Working knowledge of materials testing and laboratory testing equipment
  • Knowledge of QC/QA program and familiar with HMA, PCC
  • Ability to operate physical laboratory testing equipment
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of IDOT training programs within 24 months of assuming the position
  • Occasional districtwide travel, travel to Missouri labs and seasonal shiftwork possible
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical.
