About the role

  • Develops, establishes and implements facility rules, regulations, directives, policies and procedures for the facility to ensure proper operation of daily functions.
  • Plans, organizes and directs overall operation functions and managers including security, physical plant, dietary services, individuals in custody discipline and other miscellaneous logistical support services.
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Conducts interviews with individuals in custody and confers with relatives regarding policies.
  • Serves as Safety and Sanitation Coordinator; makes daily routine inspection tours of institution for security, safety and sanitation.
  • Travels to various locations to attend management meetings, trainings and to speak to lay and professional groups regarding the institution programs.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in law enforcement, criminology, penology, or a related field.
  • Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public law enforcement organization, a private law enforcement organization, a correctional facility, or related field.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Requires possession of a Firearm Ownership Identification Card.
  • Requires the ability to qualify with firearms within twelve months of start date, and annually thereafter in accordance with agency directive and state or federal laws.
  • Requires the ability to be on-call.
  • Requires the use of agency-supplied technology.
  • Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires the ability to pass a drug screen.
