About the role
- Starts up, regulates, repairs, and shuts down HVAC systems, such as: boilers, fan systems including fans, filter systems and housing, air compressors, diesel engines and electrical generators, refrigeration systems including maintenance and repair of condenser units, evaporator coils and all associated auxiliaries, domestic hot water heating systems, Life Safety and building automation systems
- Ensures that equipment runs safely, economically, and within established limits
- Keeps mechanical room(s) log recording gauge readings, utilities consumed, maintenance work performed and similar data
- Uses hand and power tools to perform repairs and maintenance ranging from moving parts, replacing filters, replacing fan belts, cleaning coils, checks safety devices, building operational needs, identifying and correcting any trouble that develops
- Makes and records tests of water used for domestic consumption or generating heat
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Requirements
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school
- Requires four (4) years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high pressure and/or low pressure stationary boilers
- Prefers two (2) years working knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques used in the operation and maintenance of HVAC and Life Safety equipment
- Prefers elementary knowledge of the operation of electrical generating equipment
- Prefers possession Stationary Engineer License
- Prefers possession EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) 608 CFC Universal Refrigeration License
- Prefers ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate emergency action
- Prefers the ability to calculate fractions, decimals and percentages and to keep simple records
- Requires possession of a valid certificate as a Universal Technician under U.S.E.P.A. Section 608 Rules
