Plans, coordinates, and directs subsurface investigations and pavement coring.
Collects field data and performs field tests.
Prepares formal boring logs, subsurface profiles, and data summary reports.
Ensures equipment is properly maintained and necessary supplies are available.
Maintains subsurface data records.
Trains, motivates, and evaluates staff.
Foster and promote a culture of productivity within the sub-unit.
Work with Geotechnical Engineer to identify and eliminate barriers to production.
Performs duties in compliance with department safety rules.
Performs all duties in a manner conductive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineer, or a job-related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience OR seven years of engineering experience
Ability to direct the work of subordinate personnel and keep subordinates productive
Ability to balance the needs of multiple projects simultaneously
Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering and the application of engineering techniques of materials testing
Strong oral and written communication skills
Rudimentary knowledge of and ability to operate equipment
Working knowledge of subsurface investigation drilling and testing methods, including but not limited to Standard Penetration Testing (SPT), Shelby Tubes, Rock Coring, Pavement Coring, Dynamic Cone Penetration (DCP), and Cone Penetration Testing (CPT).
Laboratory Testing of Soils Experience, including but not limited to Standard Proctor and Atterberg Limits.
Ability to assimilate engineering data into comprehensive technical reports.
