About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Proofread and copyedit a continuous stream of opinion pieces, briefs, news and feature articles, press releases, and aggregated content about Israel and the Jewish world to a consistent high quality in a timely manner.
- Flag and correct factual errors and inconsistencies, including verifying names, dates, statistics, quotes, and links, including following up with writers when information is unclear or unverifiable.
- Check for plagiarism as needed for each story.
- Edit headlines, subheads, and photo captions to improve clarity and accuracy.
- Ensure that all texts conform to JNS editorial standards and abide by the highest quality.
- Publishing finished articles to the CMS.
- Update the website as needed (i.e. uploading breaking news items).
Requirements
What you’ll need- 2+ years of copyediting experience at news/media publications, with expertise in US/Israel political issues, Jewish topics, and online publishing.
- Native English speaker.
- Solid understanding of the Israel/US political landscape and Global/American Jewish communities.
- Proficiency in WordPress and related content-management tools.
- Strong editorial background with excellent proofreading, communication, and adherence to style guides.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Experience in fact-checking and plagiarism detection is a plus.
- Must reside and be eligible to legally work in the US.
