About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide deep technical expertise and oversight for upcoming natural gas power plant projects
Support project team by reviewing, validating, and ensuring technical integrity of designs and execution plans
Serve in a technical Owner's Engineer capacity, supporting project development, contracting, design review, and execution through commissioning and startup
Lead technical activities for design, engineering, and construction of power plants utilizing natural gas reciprocating engines and/or gas turbines
Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for electrical systems associated with power generation facilities
Set and document the electrical basis of design, develop the electrical scope of work, and define key system requirements and performance criteria
Guide and review technical deliverables from external contractors
Collaborate with other technical disciplines to ensure project integration and completeness
Support the procurement process by preparing specifications and making vendor recommendations
Review engineering documents and participate in design and technical review meetings
Ensure designs comply with applicable utility, grid interconnection, safety, and industry standards
Coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to schedule and quality standards
Support construction, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities related to plant electrical systems
Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams and support development of junior engineers through mentoring, coaching, and design guidance

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent strongly preferred.
8 or more years of progressive experience in electrical engineering roles within the power generation, oil and gas, or heavy industrial sectors.
Extensive technical expertise in the design, construction, and operation of natural gas power plants, with in-depth knowledge of electrical systems for reciprocating engine and gas turbine facilities, including simple cycle and combined cycle configurations where applicable.
Proven experience in reviewing and validating complex electrical designs from EPC contractors for large-scale projects.
Strong knowledge of medium-voltage and high-voltage power systems, generator interconnection, protection and control philosophies, relay coordination and settings development, plant distribution systems, motor control, and power system studies.
Familiarity with applicable codes and standards such as NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, NEC, NESC, and utility or interconnection requirements.
Experience leading detailed design reviews and providing technical oversight for major electrical systems on utility-scale power generation projects; engineer-of-record experience is a plus.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and provide strong technical leadership.
