About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the successful execution of assigned projects throughout the project cycle
  • Define, assemble, and drive forward project plans
  • Coordinate delivery activities, schedules, resources, contractors, budgets, finances, accounting, and risk management
  • Liaise with donors and report project progress
  • Ensure supervised projects comply with program-level operational plans, IISD policies, strategies, and best practices
  • Build and expand relationships with external partners and contacts in beneficiary countries
  • Coordinate project proposal development, financial elements, due diligence documents, and donor submissions
  • Liaise with funders regarding grant agreements and review agreements for policy compliance
  • Coordinate progress reports, donor inquiries, project interactions, and donor meetings
  • Monitor deliverables, timelines, resource requirements, contractor/vendor relationships, and project bottlenecks
  • Guide project risk identification, documentation, and mitigation
  • Establish structures for monitoring, evaluation, and learning data and track lessons learned
  • Coordinate contractor agreements, approvals, deliverables, and payments
  • Manage project expenses, budgets, forecasts, cost controls, and accounting records
  • Plan and organize conferences, briefings, seminars, workshops, programs, travel, and other project logistics
  • Maintain project information, status, and MEL records in information systems
  • Supervise assistants, set objectives, conduct performance reviews, and support career development

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field, such as project management, sustainable development, or accounting
  • Experience managing complex, multi-year projects
  • Experience with monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL)
  • Experience with finance, accounting, and administration
  • Experience with procurement and contracts management
  • Experience engaging external stakeholders, including partners, beneficiaries, and vendors
  • Experience engaging internal stakeholders, including team members and other departments
  • Experience gathering requirements and providing updates
  • Appropriate work authorization for Germany, Portugal, or the UK without sponsorship from IISD
  • Project management certification is a plus
