About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Set the architecture vision for the ICO’s on-premise and cloud technology infrastructure
  • Help design and implement robust infrastructure solutions
  • Ensure performance, security and scalability of servers, storage, networks and cloud services
  • Design infrastructure standards and frameworks for deployment, management and security
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align infrastructure decisions with Enterprise Architecture strategy
  • Conduct horizon scanning for emerging cloud infrastructure trends and opportunities
  • Help create the ICO’s technology infrastructure roadmap
  • Ensure consistency of the infrastructure landscape and facilitate integration of new technologies
  • Develop and deliver infrastructure architecture vision, strategy and roadmaps
  • Lead infrastructure design for systems and services and communicate design decisions
  • Establish infrastructure principles, policies, guardrails and standards and oversee implementation
  • Assess existing infrastructure and recommend performance and cost improvements
  • Provide technical leadership to project teams
  • Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning
  • Create graphical and documented representations of infrastructure architecture
  • Assure system quality and alignment with broader government strategy
  • Participate in architecture communities and communities of practice

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Substantial experience relevant to the role, gained through academic or vocational qualifications or experience
  • Experience developing and executing Infrastructure Architecture for a large or medium-sized organisation of 1,000+ people
  • Experience developing infrastructure designs from enterprise to project level
  • Experience establishing infrastructure architecture principles, policies, guardrails and standards and overseeing their implementation and assurance
  • Experience translating business strategy into infrastructure architecture
  • Experience working with Enterprise Architecture frameworks, including TOGAF and Zachman
  • In-depth knowledge of networking protocols, architecture and security measures
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, especially Microsoft Azure, as well as microservices, APIs and enterprise software
  • Experience networking and communicating with senior stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of cloud, on-premise and hybrid infrastructure design principles
  • Understanding of security frameworks, protocols and infrastructure protection best practices
  • Ability to handle complexity and ambiguity, solve problems creatively and develop innovative solutions
  • Ability to communicate complex technical and non-technical insights simply and effectively
  • Competence in negotiation and persuasion with a highly ethical approach
  • Proficiency in technical documentation and architecture diagrams
  • Experience with Azure administration and security, including Azure Active Directory/Entra ID, Microsoft Defender and Azure Policy
  • Ability to obtain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance
