About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead design efforts as project manager or lead engineer for low- to moderate-complexity projects
- Collaborate with senior staff on larger, high-complexity projects
- Provide engineering solutions and advice to clients through engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of building electrical systems
- Work within project monetary budgets
- Train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Analyze electrical systems and use engineering software to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
- Interact with clients to understand needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain client relationships
- Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling
- Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring design progress, percent complete, and fee expended
- Analyze engineering problems and propose solutions with senior engineers and consultants
- Conduct in-process design reviews of electrical system designs, calculations, and specifications
- Implement IMEG quality control processes
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices and contribute to research, development, and innovation
- Identify and mitigate electrical-system safety risks
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to deliver integrated solutions
- Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
- Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration
- Design power distribution, lighting, and specialty electrical systems for buildings and infrastructure
- Support projects including data centers, hospitals, and K-12 facilities
- Coordinate across disciplines to deliver code-compliant building solutions
- Contribute to Smart Buildings, Energy Codes, BIM, and photovoltaic/energy-storage initiatives
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
- Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred
- 2 years of experience minimum required; 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
- Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in producing technical plans and specifications
- Knowledge of circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings
- Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software and tools, including lighting photometric calculation software such as AGI, Elum Tools, or Visual Lighting; power system analysis and design software such as SKM/PTW or Easy Power; and energy compliance software such as ComCheck
- Proficiency with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
- Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards
- Proficiency with reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)
- Knowledge of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS, BIM software, and CTC Revit Add In Tools
- Proficiency with Smart Engineering Design Assist (SET) Tools within Revit for electrical calculations, coordination, properties, etc.
- Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
