About the role
- Provide coding and abstracting services for clients on physician medical records using ICD 10-CM, CPS, and CPT coding systems
- Participate in industry forums and support coding education within the team
- Reviews medical records to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures relative to the patient's health care encounter
- Ensures appropriate DRG assignment
- Responsible for utilizing applications to enter charts coded in real-time throughout the scheduled shift
- Solicit clarification from the physician regarding ambiguous or conflicting documentation
- Maintain current knowledge of the information contained in the Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting
- Responsible for keeping coding credentials up to date and active
Requirements
- 3 years of related coding experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to code Clinic E&M and CPT with modifiers.
- Experience coding Profee Ophthalmology charts
- Epic with 3M, 360 experience required
- Understands medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPS and CPT coding principles and guidelines
- Must pass a coding proficiency test
