About the role
- providing coding and abstracting services for clients on outpatient SDS CPT records
- using established coding principles, software, and knowledge to assign diagnostic and procedural codes
- reviewing medical records to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures
- ensuring appropriate DRG assignment
- maintaining current knowledge of information contained in the Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting
Requirements
- minimum of 5 years coding for an academic/teaching facility
- experience coding complex cases
- understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes
- extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPS, CPT coding principles and guidelines, reimbursement systems, federal, state, and payor-specific regulations and policies
- must pass coding proficiency test.
- strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
- high level of coding accuracy and attention to detail
- knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
