About the role
- Accountable for strategic planning, oversight, and execution of gas system capital infrastructure investments (>$200M annually) for NYSEG and RG&E
- Lead Gas Engineering functions: Construction Engineering, Standards Engineering, and System Planning
- Manage over 70 engineering employees (management and bargaining unit)
- Ensure design and implementation of infrastructure projects align with corporate strategy, regulatory requirements, and environmental policies
- Oversee distribution and transmission integrity management plans, R&D, materials, construction standards, and O&M procedures
- Maintain and apply hydraulic models; assess gate/regulator station equipment and develop projects
- Develop/manage annual, 5-year, and 10-year strategic business plans including regulatory proceedings, rate cases, and audits
- Execute NY Gas Engineering OpEx budget and monitor KPIs (capital spend, rate base additions)
- Champion continuous improvement, innovation, and technology adoption to improve efficiency and safety
- Oversee capital projects from planning through execution and ensure emergency preparedness and response
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (required)
- PMP Certification (preferred)
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in utility or infrastructure engineering
- Demonstrated success leading large, diverse engineering teams and managing complex, cross-functional projects
- Deep knowledge of utility operations, customer service impact, and compliance policies at the federal and state levels
- Experience in business case development and benefits realization
- Proven project management and resource prioritization skills
- Experience managing bargaining unit employees and applying union contract provisions
- Strong skills in risk management, change leadership, and use of data/analytics
