Senior Legal Counsel – Legal Services, Investment

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide strategic legal support to iA Global Asset Management (iAGAM) teams responsible for investments in debt, real estate, infrastructure and private equity.
- Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial and transactional agreements, including those related to derivatives, financing and investment structures, while ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with business objectives.
- Provide specialized legal advice on portfolio management and investment funds, including interpretation and application of National Instrument 31-103 (Registration Requirements, Exemptions and Ongoing Registrant Obligations) and the regulatory framework applicable to investment funds.
- Anticipate, identify and actively contribute to the management of legal and regulatory risks related to new strategies, products and investment activities, as well as legislative and regulatory changes affecting the investment sector.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Canadian investment regulatory framework, including securities regulatory requirements and regulators' expectations for asset managers and investment funds.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal business partners and actively participate in external networks with industry peers and trade associations to stay current on market trends, regulatory issues and best practices.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience gained at a law firm, an asset management company or a financial institution.
- Member of the Barreau du Québec or licensed to practice law in Canada.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a dynamic, fast-changing environment.
- Ability to simplify complex concepts for business partners and to draft clear, concise documents.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
- Advanced proficiency in French, both spoken and written.
- Advanced proficiency in English, as the role involves drafting and reviewing legal documents (80%), and participating in meetings and calls (70%) with English-speaking partners daily.
