About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Direct GAAP position documentation, complex areas of the close cycle, and the buildout of the accounting and financial reporting function
- Add depth across Controllership and support the Controller as the department’s utility player
- Prepare audit- and external-ready technical memos, analyses, and accounting policy in accordance with FASB and SEC requirements
- Support accurate and complete GAAP-based monthly, quarterly, and annual investor, lender, and management reporting
- Serve as a primary point of contact for the external audit through financial statement preparation, technical positions and policies, and audit timeline management
- Lead detailed reviews of Controllership processes to strengthen accuracy and completeness across financial statements and disclosures
- Establish processes and procedures to improve close-cycle efficiency and effectiveness, disclosure and presentation interpretation, and internal-controls frameworks
- Leverage AI tools to generate financial-performance insights and improve Controllership efficiency
- Own technical and confidential close areas including equity compensation, payroll, bonuses, vendor rebates, capitalized software, leases, deferred revenue, and revenue recognition
- Accelerate the overall close timeline and support the transformation of Controllership around its AI charter
Requirements
What you’ll need- CPA required
- 6+ years of progressive experience, with a blend of external audit, financial reporting, technical accounting, and controllership experience preferred
- Demonstrated depth in ASC 606, ASC 718, ASC 842, and ASC 350-40 and other applicable FASB and SEC guidance
- Ability to independently research and document complex accounting treatment
- NetSuite or comparable large ERP proficiency required
- Advanced Excel required
- Ability to operate with limited direction and handle confidential matters
- Ability to move between technical depth and hands-on close execution
- Proven organizational and time management skills
- Ability to present to any audience and serve as an independent point of contact for Accounting within Finance
- Experience incorporating Claude or other AI tools into processes
- Big 4 or national firm audit foundation strongly preferred, with industry experience
- Public company or IPO-readiness exposure, including SOX/controls design and disclosure, preferred
- E-commerce, CPG, or DTC industry experience
