About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Deploy, configure, maintain and troubleshoot Linux-based hosting infrastructure
Manage virtualised environments using KVM and Proxmox
Develop and maintain automated configuration-management and server-provisioning solutions
Build and improve internal tools and systems supporting operational and business requirements
Monitor infrastructure performance, availability and capacity, proactively identifying and resolving issues
Troubleshoot complex incidents across servers, databases, web services, networks and hosting-control panels
Act as a subject-matter expert in one or more areas
Maintain systems and contribute to infrastructure improvements enhancing reliability, scalability, security and operational efficiency
Create and maintain clear technical documentation
Collaborate with Infrastructure, Support and other technical teams
Participate in an on-call rota where required

Requirements

What you’ll need

Experienced Senior Site Reliability Engineer
Linux systems administration across RHEL-based and Debian-based distributions
Bash scripting
At least five years’ professional experience in Linux systems administration
Virtualisation technologies, particularly KVM and Proxmox
Configuration management, automation and server-provisioning tools, particularly Ansible; AWX or Salt experience valuable
Relational databases, particularly MariaDB and MySQL
Web servers including Apache, LiteSpeed and/or NGINX
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical and operational issues
Fluent written and spoken English
Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues
Preferred: Docker or Podman; Python, PHP or Go; Xen and Hyper-V; hardware and software RAID; Windows administration including IIS, Microsoft DNS and PowerShell
