About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead mechanical design activities for rotating and static turbomachinery components, including rotors, stators, blisks, disks and impellers
  • Lead design and analysis tasks covering modal, vibration, deflection, crack growth, burst, fatigue, thermal and stack analysis using FEA
  • Lead testing of components and engine modules across rig, development and production lifecycle stages
  • Perform data reduction and analysis on test data
  • Generate documentation of engineering results and findings from design, simulation, analysis and testing
  • Oversee generation and presentation of engineering artifacts during structured design reviews
  • Lead technical mentoring, process and tool improvement, and knowledge capture efforts
  • Lead junior engineers in day-to-day technical tasks
  • Lead proposal activities supporting commercial and military customers
  • Support fielded products and development of new products for turbofan, turboshaft and APU applications

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience in mechanical design and analysis of aerospace components
  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience working with turbomachinery components
  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience with FEA software ANSYS APDL or ANSYS Mechanical
  • Candidate must be a U.S. Person: a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, protected U.S. asylum/refugee status holder, or someone able to obtain export authorization
  • Experience with AI/ML, adjoint optimization, surrogate modeling and multidisciplinary optimization within the gas turbine engine domain
  • Familiarity with manufacturing methods and field support of gas turbine engines
  • Root cause analysis (RCCA) experience
  • CAD modeling experience with tools such as NX, UG, Solidworks or CATIA
  • Advanced scripting experience with MATLAB, Python or C++
  • Knowledge of turbomachinery test methodologies, including strain gages, light probes and kulites
  • Strong writing, speaking and presenting skills
  • PhD or M.S. in aerospace or mechanical engineering is valued
