About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work Monday through Friday during daylight hours, primarily at West Penn, with travel to outreach locations
- Provide specialty and critical care healthcare services within the Physician Assistant scope of practice
- Manage acute and chronic medical and/or procedural problems across physician offices, non-acute facilities, and inpatient environments
- Facilitate diagnostic and emergency care in outpatient and acute inpatient settings
- Order and interpret laboratory, advanced radiological, and specialized diagnostic studies
- Institute emergency measures and stabilization techniques for acute patient situations
- Prescribe and administer medications and injections
- Perform minor bedside surgical procedures and complex specialty-specific procedures
- Coordinate complex care with patients, families, community services, and interdisciplinary teams
- Initiate consultations for cases exceeding PA-C scope or requiring higher-level medical decision-making
- Provide specialized critical and inpatient care and maintain accurate, complete, timely medical records
- Educate patients and families on prevention, medications, and treatment; recommend community resources
- Ensure continuity of care across outpatient visits, inpatient admissions, and post-discharge follow-up
- Conduct daily inpatient rounds, document patient progress and care plans, and triage clinic calls and inquiries
- Participate in continuing education and quality improvement initiatives
- Assist with surgical, interventional radiology, and fluoroscopic procedures under supervision
- Contribute to education of trainees and professional staff
- Perform other assigned duties and specialty-specific procedures as defined by privileging and job agreement
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies
- Current PA Physician Assistant License
- PA-C or board eligible
- Four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Preferred: 1 year of experience in Physician Assistant in specialty or procedure-based setting
- Ongoing successful recertification (NCCPA) as a PA-C within 90 days of hire
- Drug Enforcement Agency Licensure within 60 days of hire
- ACLS Certification
- CPR - American Heart Association
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Compliance with HIPAA, data security guidelines, the Code of Business Conduct, applicable laws, regulations, policies, and training requirements
