About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Shape and deliver Harper’s Bazaar’s editorial vision with the Editor-in-Chief
  • Act as the Editor-in-Chief’s senior editorial partner and key decision-maker in their absence
  • Take responsibility for the magazine’s successful day-to-day operation
  • Own editorial workflow from planning through publication
  • Oversee commissioning, copy, design, production, approvals, deadlines and team priorities
  • Oversee proofs and final editorial output to maintain quality, accuracy, tone and execution standards
  • Oversee magazine editorial sections, including commissioning, developing and editing content
  • Attend daily digital stand-ups and contribute across print and digital platforms
  • Collaborate with digital, audience, events, commercial and wider business teams
  • Lead editorial involvement in events and commercial projects
  • Oversee development of the Bazaar membership proposition
  • Lead, support and develop editorial colleagues, including the Membership Director
  • Foster creativity, collaboration, accountability and consistently high standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Significant experience as a senior editor in a premium magazine, luxury media brand, newspaper, digital publisher or similarly sophisticated editorial environment
  • Strong track record of commissioning and editing outstanding journalism
  • Understanding of Harper’s Bazaar’s heritage, audience, authority and position within fashion, culture and luxury
  • Highly organised and operationally minded, with experience managing complex workflows, multiple deadlines and competing priorities
  • Meticulous attention to detail and confidence making decisions
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Refined editorial judgement and uncompromising standards for quality, language, accuracy, tone and presentation
  • Proven experience running and developing a team
  • Understanding of premium editorial across print, digital and other brand touchpoints
  • Ability to collaborate across digital, audience, events, commercial and wider Hearst teams
  • Commercial awareness and ability to develop compelling editorial projects, experiences and initiatives
  • Polished, credible and discreet communication skills
  • Ability to build strong internal and external relationships and represent Harper’s Bazaar across fashion, luxury, cultural and creative industries
