About the role
- Building infrastructure for modern healthcare delivery; API-first, ONC-Certified EHR
- Healthie processes over 1 billion API calls monthly and supports millions of patients
- Lead design and scale of Healthie’s GraphQL API, treating APIs as products
- Define API architecture and standards, build SDKs and developer tools, improve observability and tooling
- Mentor engineers, influence architecture, and partner with product and leadership to shape roadmap
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend or full-stack development experience, plus deep GraphQL expertise
- Proven track record designing and scaling APIs that handle millions or billions of calls
- Skilled in building developer tools and SDKs (TypeScript, Python, Ruby, or similar)
- Experience solving authentication, pagination, error ergonomics, observability, and versioning at scale
- Leadership experience: mentoring engineers and setting technical direction
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- U.S. work authorization required; Healthie does not provide sponsorship
- Bonus: Experience with background job systems (e.g., Sidekiq) or event-driven architectures
