About the role

  • Building infrastructure for modern healthcare delivery; API-first, ONC-Certified EHR
  • Healthie processes over 1 billion API calls monthly and supports millions of patients
  • Lead design and scale of Healthie’s GraphQL API, treating APIs as products
  • Define API architecture and standards, build SDKs and developer tools, improve observability and tooling
  • Mentor engineers, influence architecture, and partner with product and leadership to shape roadmap

Requirements

  • 8+ years of backend or full-stack development experience, plus deep GraphQL expertise
  • Proven track record designing and scaling APIs that handle millions or billions of calls
  • Skilled in building developer tools and SDKs (TypeScript, Python, Ruby, or similar)
  • Experience solving authentication, pagination, error ergonomics, observability, and versioning at scale
  • Leadership experience: mentoring engineers and setting technical direction
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • U.S. work authorization required; Healthie does not provide sponsorship
  • Bonus: Experience with background job systems (e.g., Sidekiq) or event-driven architectures
