About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the patient product experience end to end, from problem framing through launch and iteration
  • Prototype and test ideas quickly with Claude Code, Cursor, or another AI tool
  • Partner with product managers, engineers, and researchers to shape scope and priority
  • Design experiences for finding providers, understanding benefits, booking appointments, and staying engaged in care
  • Run experiments using conversion, retention, and task-completion metrics
  • Contribute to Headway's Helix design system and share AI prompts and patterns
  • At Staff level, lead 0→1 and at-scale work
  • Design AI-native patient experiences, including conversational flows, intelligent matching, and agentic care navigation
  • Mentor designers, raise craft standards, and shape design-team practices
  • Influence product direction and the patient roadmap through design rationale, research, and storytelling

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Senior level: 5+ years of product design experience
  • Staff level: 8+ years of product design experience
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong or exceptional craft, structured/systems thinking, and measurable business impact
  • Experience designing consumer or patient-facing products
  • Ability to simplify complex, state-heavy problems into coherent experiences
  • Product strategy instincts and ability to shape roadmaps from customer insight
  • Experience running multi-sprint experiments against real metrics
  • Fluency with AI prototyping tools, treating AI as core to the design practice
  • Staff level: experience with 0→1 product work
  • Staff level: experience designing agentic or AI-powered workflows
  • Staff level: ability to design multi-actor, stateful patient experiences
  • Staff level: mentorship, critique, or demonstrated elevation of other designers
  • Motivation by Headway's mission to make mental healthcare accessible and affordable
  • Authorization to work in the United States is requested in the application
