About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Facilitate and perform health promotion and wellness education planning and implementation activities
  • Participate in skills and capacity-building activities
  • Participate in research and evaluation activities
  • Provide consumer-oriented eating disorder information and reference materials through print and electronic resources
  • Design, conduct, and update community assessments to determine population eating disorder education needs
  • Identify and develop eating disorder wellness and education initiatives for particular populations
  • Develop collaborative partnerships and linkages with community, clinical, health administration, partner organization, and government stakeholders
  • Organize and implement health service, promotion, education, and community outreach events
  • Participate in community networks addressing eating disorder health issues
  • Assist community resources in accessing health-related services
  • Advocate for community resources to access capacity- and skills-building opportunities
  • Identify and develop health events, forums, and learning opportunities
  • Implement health promotion strategies including health education, social marketing, population health, and community development
  • Provide culturally competent and ethnoculturally sensitive eating disorder promotion strategies
  • Conduct or arrange in-service presentations for Community Program staff
  • Recommend and assist with acquiring accurate, current, reliable, and appropriate educational materials
  • Provide quick reference and referral assistance for adult influencers, youth, and children
  • Present at health conferences, seminars, and workshops
  • Seek opportunities to publish research findings
  • Precept students from community health programs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must live in York Region
  • Completion of a degree in a health-related discipline or recognized equivalent
  • Membership in a regulated health or social service college
  • Mental health clinician or counsellor, or undergraduate degree with additional education in counselling or mental health
  • Over 3 years up to and including 4 years of practical and related experience and/or 3 months of on-the-job training
  • Minimum two years of experience in a mental health setting focused on children and youth
  • Psychotherapy qualifications, community development, and/or public health experience preferred
  • Experience in health promotion, health education, or child/youth education
  • Experience with child/youth mental health areas and community development preferred
  • Experience working with anxiety disorders, depression, past trauma, eating disorders, or motivational enhancement
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multiple groups and stakeholders
  • Valid driver's license and own transportation required
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Facilitation skills and ability to drive consensus across clinical, professional, educator, and community sectors, in person and virtually
  • Knowledge and experience of health promotion, population health, community development principles, and determinants of health
  • Ability to collaborate as a team member and use colleagues' skills and expertise
  • Ability to collaborate with program staff and community practitioners to provide activities, programs, and services
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate respect for the strengths of individuals and communities
  • Awareness and understanding of specific communities and their needs
  • Understanding of conventional and alternative health practices, health and wellness, and cultural diversity
  • Compliance with pre-employment medical clearance and Halton Healthcare immunization and vaccination policies
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of vaccination or documented medical exemption
