About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead formulation of national campaign and program strategies aligned with regional and global three-year plans
  • Provide political, legal, socio-economic, and environmental analysis to identify intervention points and emerging risks
  • Integrate campaign goals, engagement tactics, and fundraising opportunities into cohesive program delivery
  • Steer country-wide program alignment across departments
  • Direct national campaign execution, monitoring, evaluation, and learning
  • Plan, monitor, and oversee country programme and campaign budgets
  • Enforce security protocols and risk mitigation controls across campaigns and field operations
  • Promote collaboration across Programme, Engagement, Fundraising, and Operations
  • Participate in the GPSEA Programme Director Team and contribute to regional-global strategy priorities
  • Convene and chair the Country Coordination Team for cross-departmental alignment
  • Provide strategic updates to the Programme Director and Executive Director
  • Line manage the country programme team, review performance, and provide mentoring/coaching
  • Serve as internal focal point for legal, crisis, and safety management
  • Liaise with leadership and the national Board on governance, reporting, and statutory compliance
  • Serve as chief spokesperson and official external/legal representative for GPSEA-MY
  • Build strategic alliances, coalitions, and partnerships advancing environmental and climate justice
  • Engage with regional and global Greenpeace peers to exchange insights and best practices
  • Ensure delivery of work plans, budgets, campaign milestones, and annual reporting
  • Respond to emerging political opportunities, social trends, and breaking events
  • Ensure strategic synergies between programme and non-programme departments
  • Uphold policy accuracy, brand integrity, and organizational safety standards across campaign outputs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social/Environmental Sciences, Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum 8–10 years of senior leadership experience in environmental campaigning, advocacy, NGO management, strategic planning, and people management
  • Track record in political advocacy, media representation, coalition building, financial oversight, and organizational change management
  • In-depth understanding of Malaysia’s socio-political, legal, environmental, and cultural landscape
  • Advanced negotiation and relationship-building skills
  • Experience navigating government frameworks and building civil society coalitions
  • Experience overseeing multidisciplinary teams and managing operational budgets under delegated authority
  • Ability to manage high-stakes external crises and enforce security protocols
  • Experience as a media spokesperson and advocate with donors, partners, and communities
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multifunctional teams and communicate complex ideas clearly
  • Full professional fluency in written and spoken Bahasa Malaysia and English
  • Working knowledge of Chinese or Tamil is an added advantage
  • Flexible approach to working hours and willingness to travel nationally and regionally
  • High adaptability in fast-paced, high-stakes political environments and field deployments
