About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Support the preparation, presentation, and management of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including analysis of the Statement of Activities, Balance Sheet, and cash flow.
Direct and occasionally perform day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Responsible for the reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including grant accounting.
Ensure that the billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
Understand and help manage cash flow and banking relationships to meet operational and strategic needs.
Prepare the annual fiscal year budget along with the CFO.
Staff the GUW Finance Committee and Audit Committee, along with the CFO.
Collaborate with program directors to manage grant accounting and track expenditures by programs and other funding sources.
Ensure accurate recording, reconciliation, and maintenance of all grant financial activity.
Work with CFO to ensure annual preparation of SEFA.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
Improve and monitor financial policies and internal controls.
Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal laws regarding nonprofit operations.
Coordinate the annual audit process in partnership with the CFO.

Requirements

What you’ll need

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management, with at least 3 years of progressive experience in a leadership role (preferably in a nonprofit organization with a budget of at least $10 million).
Experience managing finance and accounting software systems, including reporting, compliance, and audit functions (Sage Intacct preferred).
Experience in a nonprofit setting, required.
Familiarity with accounting software, including reporting, compliance, and audit functions (Sage Intacct preferred).
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Microsoft Excel.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong relationship-building abilities, with the capacity to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with staff at all levels of the organization.
Strong financial analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with careful attention to detail and a commitment to transparency and accountability.
Demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
