About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct broad range of surveying and engineering related duties in conjunction with the administration, maintenance and operations of highways and bridges.
  • Review and administer Work Within Highway Right-of Way Permits and assess subdivision/development plans.
  • Assist with contract administration and collect, compile and present data collected during field work and determine quantities of materials for use on projects.
  • Assist supervisors and managers with maintenance project planning, designs, permitting and oversight.
  • Conduct field surveys to confirm property and highway boundaries.
  • Collect field survey data with GPS and total station equipment, plot and prepare CAD drawings and sketches.
  • Maintain and disseminate signage and pavement marking plans, highway right-of-way plans, and other official records.
  • Coordinate winter salt management and periodically confirm accurate inventory levels during summer and winter operations.
  • Assess lot access, road frontage and prepare response letters for subdivision applications.
  • Provide surveys, calculations and prepare permits for environmental work such as culverts, shoreline protection projects.
  • Review and update road lists.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduation from a two (2) year Survey or Civil Technology course
  • A Certified Engineering Technologist in a related field with related experience construction, maintenance, or planning will be considered.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and access to a reliable motor vehicle.
  • A self-motivated individual who works well independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experienced with current AutoCAD™ software packages designed for use in a surveying or engineering environment.
  • Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and safe working practices.
  • Experience in the use of spreadsheet software, word processing, and email applications.
  • Familiarity with watercourse alteration and fish passage design guidelines would also be considered assets.
