About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Assist in the development and execution of power engineering and project-related tasks within the engineering department
Develop, implement, and maintain sound engineering practices across existing, developing, and under-construction assets
Support lifecycle performance optimisation of Globeleq’s electricity-generation assets
Assist with grid code compliance, power system studies, power quality assessments, and electrical plant control-system improvements
Support plant engineering through reliability and performance studies, technical audits, fault finding, root-cause investigations, and technical-team knowledge transfer
Administer StationWare configuration management and assist with engineering systems development
Manage engineering projects from concept through operations
Assist with technical specifications, feasibility studies, supplier and contractor evaluations, and project delivery
Travel frequently for onsite investigations, equipment testing, project execution, and commissioning
Perform other duties assigned by the Power Engineer

Requirements

What you’ll need

B.Sc Eng/B.Eng or MTech in electrical engineering (heavy current), or NQF equivalent
Ideally 2 years’ experience in power system operation, a similar industrial plant, or power system studies in a consulting role
SCADA and PLC experience beneficial
Understanding of LV, MV, and HV electrical systems
Very good MS Word and MS Excel skills
Exposure to MS Project or similar and MS PowerPoint advantageous
Experience in wind, photovoltaic, and battery storage plants advantageous
Exposure to or knowledge of RMS/EMT dynamic simulations and electrical protection systems
Exposure to power system digital simulation packages required
DIgSILENT PowerFactory and StationWare experience advantageous
Ability to read and understand IEC/SANS technical standards
Working knowledge of NERSA grid codes advantageous
Ability to read and understand schematics
Valid light vehicle driver’s licence required
Willingness to travel frequently to sites for investigations, equipment testing, project execution, and commissioning
Very good written and verbal English communication skills
Ability to present to technical audiences and train colleagues
Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with internal and external parties
Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritise effectively
Ability to manage changing priorities and work under pressure
Self-starter able to work independently
Good team-player and strong organising and attention-to-detail skills
