About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • 1) Provide accurate translation and/or editing of documents and/or transcription of audio files involving law enforcement and legal subject matter from Greek to/from English.
  • 2) Edit audio transcriptions that include slang and idioms.
  • 3) Edit legal documents, such as affidavits, depositions, etc., while demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both English and the target language.
  • 4) Excellent written communication skills in English and the target foreign language, with Advanced Proficiency (reading/speaking/listening, writing) level 3-plus in English and the foreign target language, as assessed by the International Language Roundtable (ILR) scale.
  • 5) Translate and/or transcribe following the government client’s style guides and quality standards.
  • 6) Use domain-specific terminology.
  • 7) Review and certify the quality of other translators’ work, as needed.
  • 8) Highly proficient in MS Office, with the ability to mirror source document format in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • 9) Familiar with the use of CAT tools, such as Trados Studio.
  • 10) Abide by a code of ethics when performing transcription and translation work.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 1) Willing to undergo a U.S. government background check to obtain a Public Trust Clearance Moderate Level.
  • 2) Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3) At least 2 to 3 years of experience in translating and/or editing between English and the Greek language.
  • 4) At least 2 to 3 years of experience performing forensic audio transcription with the ability to use software to enhance sound and equipment to aid in transcription.
  • 5) Familiar with legal terminology in both English and the Greek.
  • 6) Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • 7) Translators and editors must proficiently use CAT tools, such as SDL Trados.
