About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Set up and break down of the dive station and all related equipment
  • Understand the operational parameters of all diving-related equipment
  • Ensure complete understanding of the dive plan and competence to carry out the planned task
  • Assist in topside work as required or directed
  • Assist the diver in dressing and undressing
  • Ability to identify and report any equipment faults, other potential hazards, near misses, or accidents
  • Confirm that the diver’s equipment is functioning properly and inform the diving supervisor that the diver is ready
  • Continuously tend the diver’s umbilical (keeping at least one hand on the umbilical at all times) and be aware of the diver’s location at all times
  • Report any medical problems or symptoms experienced during or after a dive
  • Properly complete all paperwork as required by employer policy and/or governmental regulations
  • Perform tasks as a standby diver or diver when directed by the supervisor
  • A Tender who dives shall be subject to the duties and responsibilities of a diver within the limitations of his or her assignment
  • Must be familiar with and alert for symptoms of oxygen toxicity
  • Report to the diving supervisor any recent medical treatment or illness so that a proper determination can be made concerning fitness and/or ability to dive
  • Undertake dives and other duties as directed by the Supervisor
  • Ensure that personal diving equipment is functioning correctly and suitable for the planned dive
  • Report to the diving supervisor any defect or malfunction of the diving equipment provided for the diving operation
  • Perform routine maintenance on diving equipment
  • Maintain a diver log book documenting all dives and have it signed by the Supervisor after each dive
  • Read, understand, and comply with all employer’s policies and applicable governmental regulations, as they relate to their qualifications or performance while engaging in diving operations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent reading, writing, and reasoning skills)
  • Previous maritime experience and knowledge of diving support equipment
  • Must possess working knowledge of industry requirements for equipment
  • Must be a graduate of a commercial diver training program accredited by the Association of Diving Educators (ACDE) or as recognized by IMCA
  • Must be eligible to enter or be a member of a local union
  • All employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • 5+ years of underwater diving experience
  • 5+ years of experience in the construction industry
  • Valid ADCI Card and/or ADCI Supervisor Card
  • Oxygen Provider/DANO2 NITROX/Enriched Air
  • Oxygen First Aid/CPR
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER
  • OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction Course Certificate
  • TWIC Card
  • Current diving physical (or ability to pass one)
  • Current certifications of all diver-owned equipment (hat, bottle, etc.)
  • Last four dive logs required at time of application
