About the role
- You lead team leads and developers (people leadership, coaching, development, conflict resolution).
- You build structures that scale: responsibilities, standards, decision-making paths, and an operating model that works in day-to-day operations.
- You ensure our teams deliver predictably (focus, prioritization, capacity planning, dependencies).
- You reduce "firefighting" through clean processes, clear ownership and effective escalation management.
- You create transparency around status, risks and delivery forecasts — without reporting theater.
- You embody and advance standards for code quality, reviews, testing, CI/CD and observability.
- You help teams make technical debt visible and actively drive its reduction.
- You ensure compliance with architecture and platform guardrails and make sure we develop sustainably, securely and scalably.
- You bring a solid security focus and establish security-by-design as part of our engineering standards.
- You support our goal of achieving ISO/IEC 27018 certification by helping design engineering-side processes, evidentiary artifacts and technical measures, and by coordinating implementation with relevant stakeholders.
- You support recruiting and hiring and build a team that works long-term.
Requirements
- Several years of experience as an Engineering Manager, Head of Engineering or Senior Tech Lead with direct people responsibility.
- Demonstrable track record of scaling engineering teams and making delivery reliable (not just managing).
- Strong judgment in technology, organization and prioritization.
- Hands-on enough to assess quality and architecture — without needing to be a "hero coder".
- Very strong communication skills are essential.
- German at C2 level (written and spoken) is required.
