About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define and continuously evolve the performance testing strategy.
- Ensure test workloads mirror production traffic patterns, regression suites remain green, and alerts are acted upon with documented runbooks.
- Instrument the edge fleet for deep observability — latency histograms, resource saturation signals, and tracing pipelines — so performance regressions surface before they reach end users.
- Design and enforce staged (A/B, canary) rollout processes for performance-sensitive changes.
- Own the feedback loop between test environments and production.
- Identify and drive systemic throughput, latency, and efficiency improvements across the edge network — from kernel tuning and eBPF offloads to traffic shaping and caching strategy.
- Continuously raise the bar on configuration management, agentic workflows, and automated performance gates.
- Reduce toil; increase signal-to-noise in performance data.
- Guide ops, dev, and support engineers through technical direction, runbooks, and shared test environments.
- Raise the performance literacy of the broader engineering org.
- Partner with Product, R&D, Network, Security, and Support teams to ship performance-aware features.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert during performance-related incidents and drive post-incident improvements.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Deep expertise in Linux/Unix environments — kernel internals, process scheduling, memory management, and I/O subsystems.
- Proficiency with performance profiling and tracing tools: eBPF (bpftrace, libbpf), perf, gdb, strace, flamegraphs, and related tooling.
- Strong scripting and automation skills — Python, Bash, and infrastructure-as-code (Ansible, Terraform, or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, HTTP/2–3, TLS, load balancing, and traffic engineering.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid/bare-metal edge infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with agentic coding workflows and AI-assisted engineering toolchains.
- Excellent communication skills — able to translate low-level performance findings into business impact for diverse audiences.
- Nice-to-have: Puppet, Prometheus, Grafana, VictoriaMetrics / Victoria Logs
- BGP and related routing protocols
- Programming in C, Go, Rust, or Python
- eBPF program authorship
- Kernel bypass networking (DPDK / XDP)
- Web security and DDoS mitigation practices
- AI/ML in production systems
- Edge / CDN architecture
