About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Analyze and understand complex legacy mainframe codebases such as COBOL and PL/I using generative AI tools
Identify code patterns, dependencies, and optimization opportunities
Use AI to refactor, translate, and re-architect mainframe applications into Java, Python, microservices, and other modern architectures
Implement AI-driven code generation while ensuring code quality and maintainability
Design and implement data migration strategies from legacy mainframe systems to modern databases or cloud platforms
Use AI to automate data transformation and ensure data integrity
Develop and execute testing plans for functional and performance requirements
Use AI for automated test case generation and test execution
Collaborate with mainframe experts, architects, and developers on modernization goals and constraints
Monitor generative AI advancements and apply them to improve modernization processes

Requirements

What you’ll need

Hands-on experience using LLMs through APIs such as Claude and Gemini
Familiarity with LLM architectures and their strengths and weaknesses
Understanding of prompt engineering techniques
Hands-on technical experience designing, deploying, and managing cloud-based solutions
Cloud certifications in architecture, data engineering, and/or machine learning
Background working with government technology projects and programs
Demonstrated ability to connect with stakeholders
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
