About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Answer calls in a professional manner and act in accordance with the interpreter’s code of conduct.
  • Be prepared to take notes during calls.
  • Be familiar with industry-specific vocabulary, particularly healthcare and medical terminology.
  • Render all messages accurately and completely, without adding, omitting, or substituting information.
  • Deliver the highest level of customer service during interpreting assignments.
  • Facilitate communication between limited French‑proficient speakers and clients by providing accurate, complete interpretation of messages.
  • Apply established standards of practice.
  • Participate in internal professional training programs.
  • Pursue additional professional certifications.
  • Communicate with and report to your team leader.
  • Comply with dress code requirements for video remote interpreting (VRI).

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Fluency in both English and French.
  • At least 1 year of over‑the‑telephone interpretation experience with a reputable interpretation company.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with legal terminology is a plus.
  • International healthcare certifications are a plus (e.g., PICSI, ALTA, HIPAA).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • High emotional intelligence and cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong communication, active listening, note‑taking, and memory retention skills.
