- Be prepared to take notes during a call
- Be familiar with the specific vocabulary of the industry you work with (especially healthcare/medical)
- Render all messages accurately and completely, without adding, omitting, or substituting information
- Provide the highest level of customer service during interpreting
- Facilitate communication between Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients and the client organization by delivering accurate and complete interpretations
- Apply standards of practice
- Complete internal professional training
- Be willing to obtain new professional certifications
- Communicate and report to your team leader
- Comply with dress code requirements for video remote interpreting (VRI)
Requirements
What you’ll need- Native-level Portuguese (Brazilian or European) and fluent in English
- Minimum 1 year of over-the-phone interpretation (OPI) experience with a reputable interpreting company
- Good knowledge of medical terminology
- Familiarity with legal terminology is a plus
- International healthcare certifications are a plus (e.g., PICSI, ALTA, HIPAA)
- High school diploma (secondary education)
- High emotional intelligence and cultural sensitivity
- Strong communication, active listening, note-taking, and memory retention skills
