About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Architect and develop game features and systems
- Collaborate effectively with team members and discipline leads
- Design and implement structured, efficient, maintainable, and well-documented technology
- Consider system impacts on other disciplines and projects, ensuring usability, scalability, and long-term maintainability
- Guide junior programmers and provide feedback on code, documentation, and game development approaches
- Create and maintain project-wide documentation for complex systems, features, and workflows
- Participate in, contribute to, and occasionally lead project reviews and meetings
- Program primarily in C++ using Frontier's in-house Cobra engine and cross-platform game code
- Collaborate with programmers and specialists across multiple disciplines
- Collaborate with game designers and QA testers to tune the player experience
Requirements
What you’ll need- Track record in the development of complex game features in released titles
- Excellent problem solving and programming skills using modern C++
- Experience working in a large codebase and ability to adapt to established methods
- Proficient profiling and optimisation skills for CPU performance and memory usage
- Experience of cross-discipline collaboration with game designers and content creators
- Genuine passion for video games
- Proactive approach to collaborative learning and knowledge sharing
- Drive to expand expertise in game development and passion for continued learning and self-improvement
- Experience working with a proprietary game engine (bonus)
- Familiarity providing technical direction to teams (bonus)
- Experience managing or mentoring other programmers (bonus)
- Cross-platform development experience on shipped titles, including consoles such as Xbox and PlayStation (bonus)
- Working knowledge of an entity component system (bonus)
