About the role
- Help drive change
- The working group “Maritime Drone Applications” develops innovative approaches and solutions for the use of mobile robotics in the maritime domain within research projects.
- The focus is on the development and adaptation of drones, the integration of sensors and measurement technology for maintenance and inspection tasks, and on approval and regulatory matters for drone operations.
- You will work at the Offshore-Drone-Campus Cuxhaven and the Maritime Test Center Heligoland.
- You are responsible for the management and acquisition of innovative research projects.
- Your tasks include addressing research questions on the use of mobile robotics, such as drones, for maintenance and inspection in the maritime sector.
- In addition, you will be responsible for the regulatory support of drone operations: permits, flight planning, communication with authorities, and audit documentation.
- Independent acquisition and leadership of research and industry projects are also part of your responsibilities.
- You will support the operation of our research vessel.
Requirements
- Completed academic degree (e.g. Master's) in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a comparable field
- Experience and/or interest in UAV flight testing, sensor technology and data analysis (flight-controller programming, Pixhawk, ArduPilot, Mission Planner)
- Experience with drones or model aircraft
- Interest in aviation law and UAV regulation (e.g. EU 2019/947, SORA) and willingness to learn permit procedures and safety assessments
- Team player with strong organizational and communication skills
- High degree of initiative, flexibility, assertiveness and commitment
- Independent, structured and precise way of working
- Confident and polished customer-facing manner
- Very good written and spoken English
