About the role
- Your curiosity will lead you to the Hydrogen Technology department.
- In the field of electrochemical technology, the focus is on water electrolysis (AEL and AEMEL — alkaline electrolysis and anion exchange membrane electrolysis).
- Projects also extend to adjacent innovative technologies and will challenge your creativity.
- You will work on research and development tasks in the field of water electrolysis (AEL/AEMEL) in publicly funded and industry-oriented projects.
- You will develop and test components as well as cell and stack concepts along the electrochemical value chain.
- You will plan experimental programs, conduct electrochemical and materials-science experiments, and systematically analyze the resulting data.
- You will document and evaluate your results and prepare them for project reports, scientific publications, and presentations for consortium meetings and industry partners.
- You will support the expansion of test technology for electrolyzer stacks, assist with the commissioning of new test rigs, and develop into the technical contact person for the testing infrastructure.
- You will contribute to the design of new research approaches and to the preparation of project proposals and offers in this field.
- You will acquire, coordinate, and execute publicly funded and industry-oriented research and development projects, with a constant focus on technology transfer to industry.
Requirements
- Completed university degree (Master’s/Diploma) in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Technical Chemistry, or a comparable discipline; a PhD is an advantage but not mandatory
- Experience with electrolysis in an industrial or academic context (at minimum through a thesis or doctoral research; ideally with professional experience)
- Solid knowledge of electrochemical process engineering (particularly electrolysis)
- Knowledge of materials science and/or experience handling electrode and catalyst materials
- CAD skills are required, ideally with experience in SolidWorks
- Experience in experimental work as well as in the analysis and documentation of measurement data; ideally confident use of analysis tools
- Ideally, understanding of FEM simulation for modeling cell concepts
- Independent, structured working style and enjoyment of interdisciplinary collaboration and scientific communication
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
- Proficient user of MS Office
- Business-fluent German and proficiency in English, both written and spoken
Benefits
- Leading-edge research within a wide range of flagship projects that advance society, industry — and your career
- An experienced, interdisciplinary, and international team
- State-of-the-art equipment for electrochemical characterization (from electrode to stack level)
- Targeted training and development of your technical and personal strengths through the Fraunhofer education program
- Company pension scheme, capital-forming benefits, and salary conversion options
- Subsidy for the Deutschlandticket (job ticket)
- Family-friendly work culture with flexible arrangements to balance leisure, family, and career
