About the role
- Support our research projects in the planning, development and implementation of systems — from concept to final prototype
- Develop and implement computer vision algorithms for object detection and tracking based on optical data
- Control-oriented tracking/pointing (servoing) of sensors based on object tracking, including deriving and implementing appropriate control loops
- Integrate image processing and control engineering into a complex experimental setup and independently optimize the overall system
- Plan and carry out experiments for the iterative improvement of the systems
- Support scientific measurements and participate in multi-day measurement campaigns at home and abroad
Requirements
- A successfully completed scientific university degree (Master) or, ideally, a doctoral degree in engineering, physics, or a comparable discipline, preferably with several years of professional experience
- Solid expertise either in object detection and tracking based on optical sensor data or in the control actuation of mechanical tracking systems for object tracking
- Practical experience in assembling, operating and optimizing optical or mechatronic systems
- Enthusiasm for creative, interdisciplinary solutions — working independently as well as in a team
- Interest in new technologies and willingness to independently learn and explore new topics
- Very good German (B2/C1 level) and ideally very good English (at least B2) spoken and written
- Willingness to contribute to projects that provide benefits to the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr)
Benefits
- Exciting and varied projects that promise a diverse working day
- A stimulating role at the interface between science and industry, between present and future
- Significant freedom for personal development and to independently advance topics and projects
- Excellent technical equipment
- Motivated colleagues who inspire one another through an interdisciplinary and international composition
- Individual career paths through extensive training and development opportunities
- Optimal conditions for work–life balance (flexible working hours, mobile working where the role permits, daycare slot quota in Karlsruhe, etc.)
