About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Lead revenue recognition processes and accounting policy compliance
  • Oversee general ledger integrity, account reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries
  • Design, implement, and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external audits and audit preparation
  • Manage relationships with Pilot, external accounting providers, tax advisors, and auditors
  • Partner with the SVP Finance on financial reporting, board materials, fundraising support, and strategic projects
  • Drive improvements in accounting systems, automation, and reporting processes
  • Review complex accounting transactions and provide technical accounting guidance
  • Oversee cash reconciliation processes and balance sheet accuracy
  • Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, and reporting requirements
  • Build scalable accounting processes to support company growth
  • Mentor and develop accounting team members as the organization expands
  • Act as the internal owner of financial data quality and reporting accuracy across systems

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and revenue recognition principles
  • Experience managing audits and external accounting relationships
  • Experience in e-commerce, marketplace, subscription, SaaS, or consumer businesses preferred
  • Strong systems knowledge, including QuickBooks, Bill.com, Stripe, Shopify, or similar platforms
  • Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities
  • High attention to detail with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
