About the role
- Prepare and review general ledger journal entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards
- Lead monthly cost audits and provide oversight for the annual standard cost roll
- Partner with operations to monitor inventory cycle counts and resolve variances
- Perform detailed variance analysis (purchase price, freight, duties, and manufacturing cost variances) and provide insights to business partners
- Prepare, review, and reconcile complex balance sheet accounts, escalating issues as needed
- Support external audit requests, SOX testing, and internal control compliance related to costing
- Play a key role in system initiatives, including the Oracle Implementation for Standard Costing
- Identify and drive improvements in cost accounting processes, tools, and reporting
- Provide guidance and mentorship to staff accountants and assist the cost accounting team with special projects
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- CPA or CMA preferred
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
- At least 2 years in a manufacturing environment with exposure to standard costing
- Strong understanding of GAAP, cost accounting principles, and financial analysis
- Advanced Excel skills (complex formulas, pivot tables, modeling)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP/accounting systems; Oracle experience preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to partner across departments and levels
- High attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Experience mentoring or coaching junior team members is a plus
