About the role
- Carry out detailed engineering design activities for marine HVAC systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Prepare and produce HVAC marine drawing deliverables to required standards and within budget/schedule (create drawings, bill of materials, incorporate changes, up-revision of drawings)
- Create 3D CAD models and utilise them to generate 2D production outputs and additional deliverables (BoM/CADCAM data)
- Perform self-verification of work and identify errors and omissions conflicting with specifications
- Liaise with colleagues and stakeholders during design phases to ensure coordination and functionality
- Provide solutions to manufacturing and installation issues and assist in resolving technical and production queries
- Report technical progress and issues to line management and participate in design reviews
- Ensure safety, health and environmental requirements are implemented and assist in maintaining quality standards
- Act effectively as Discipline SQEP (Suitably qualified and experienced personnel)
Requirements
- NC/HNC or equivalent qualification in Mechanical / HVAC discipline
- Apprenticeship in relevant discipline or relevant industry experience
- BPSS clearance required
- Experienced HVAC Designer (naval or commercial marine projects preferred, ideally T26)
- Proficient in parametric/spec driven CAD systems in 3D & 2D (including FORAN)
- Stage 2 modelling experience
- Stage 3 outputs experience
- Development of system design, specifications, manuals, and design substantiation
- HVAC calculations: heating/cooling load, fresh air calculations, equipment sizing
- Liaising with equipment suppliers and other disciplines (electrical, structural, outfit)
- Knowledge of marine design rules and shipbuilding/ship repair terminology
