Electromechanical Design Engineer
Expleo GroupElectromechanical Design Engineer supporting the design of electro-optical defence and security systems at Expleo's Glasgow facility. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure robust performance in regulated environments.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and develop electromechanical assemblies, including mechanisms, actuators, housings, and electrical interfaces
- Collaborate with electronics, systems, mechanical and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration
- Support prototype development and provide design input during build, integration and verification activities
- Produce 3D CAD models, detailed drawings and tolerance analyses in line with project and industry standards
- Consider environmental, vibration, thermal and materials factors during design and analysis
- Participate in design reviews and technical discussions with internal teams and customers
- Generate design documentation, including BOMs, design notes, and verification‑related material
Requirements
What you’ll need- Degree level qualification in Mechanical, Electromechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering (or related discipline)
- A lower qualification would be acceptable for example HNC/HND should the candidate be able to demonstrate significant demonstrable relevant experience in lieu
- Strong mechanical design fundamentals
- CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor or similar)
- Understanding of DFM/DFA
- Ability to work with electronics and systems teams
- Understanding of tolerance stack‑up principles
- Knowledge of materials selection and manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with FEA tools for structural or thermal analysis
- Understanding of environmental and qualification considerations (vibration, shock, thermal)
- Ability to design sealed or ruggedised enclosures
- Awareness of defence, aerospace or industrial standards and practices
- Experience delivering electromechanical design within a regulated or safety‑critical environment (defence, aerospace, industrial, rail, medical)
- Working with electromechanical systems such as motors, actuators, sensors or harnessing
- Supporting prototype build, integration and verification from a design perspective
- Designing for environmental demands including vibration, shock, thermal and ingress protection
- Producing detailed CAD models, drawings and tolerance stack‑ups in a professional engineering environment
- Designing sealed or ruggedised enclosures or assemblies
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including electronics, systems and manufacturing engineering
