About the role

  • Provide PCB design services to client in Stevenage for cutting-edge defence products
  • Generate PCB designs across all phases of the development programme
  • Create new components and add to client library
  • Perform component placement balancing multiple requirements
  • Generate routing while minimising noise/EMI
  • Implement strategies for thermal management
  • Adhere to specific client design rules and PCB manufacturer capabilities to ensure high yield
  • Collaborate with mechanical designers to ensure electronics and mechanical parts are manufacturable

Requirements

  • Degree level qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (HNC/HND acceptable with significant demonstrable experience)
  • Extensive experience in PCB design delivering complex boards
  • Proficiency using Zuken CR-8000 (essential)
  • Familiarity with high ball count BGA and modern component packages
  • Experience delivering high-reliability electronics for hostile environments (aerospace, military, marine, rail)
  • Understands and ensures trace width and spacing for current and interference
  • Ability to optimise designs for manufacturing & assembly (DFM/DFA) and for test (DFT)
  • Maintain consistency in component orientation to reduce assembly errors
  • Place board-to-wire and board-to-board connectors appropriately
  • Group components by function to simplify routing and shorten trace lengths
  • Correct placement of decoupling capacitors and segregation of analogue/digital circuits
  • EMI/EMC considerations: solid ground planes and shielding strategies
  • Thermal management: locate high-power components and transfer heat away from components/board
  • Routing high-speed signals with uninterrupted ground planes and controlled impedance
  • Understands layer stack design criteria
  • UK sole National SC Clearance (required)
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and work on the client site at Stevenage 3 days per week
