About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, and implement training strategies and programs for surgery coding and coding audit teams
- Conduct needs analyses to identify skill gaps and develop targeted training plans
- Develop training modules, presentations, and learning materials based on CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS guidelines
- Keep training materials aligned with medical coding standards, payer requirements, and compliance regulations
- Deliver classroom, virtual, and blended training for new hires, staff, and auditors
- Provide coding exercises, case studies, and assessments to reinforce learning and evaluate understanding
- Provide ongoing support, mentoring, and guidance to coding professionals
- Collaborate with SMEs, Quality Auditors, and Compliance Teams on training materials
- Monitor training effectiveness through assessments, performance metrics, and feedback surveys
- Update training materials based on process improvements, audit trends, and regulatory changes
- Ensure training initiatives comply with HIPAA, OIG, and organizational confidentiality standards
- Partner with audit teams to identify error trends and develop targeted training
- Maintain records of training activities, participation, completion rates, and performance outcomes
- Prepare reports and presentations for management on training effectiveness and performance improvements
- Contribute to performance benchmarks and continuous learning strategies for coding teams
- Work as an individual contributor
- Identify and interpret strategic and operational training and development needs
- Design, implement, and evaluate training plans, curricula, and methodologies
- Deliver presentations to large groups and support employee development and performance management
- Work with physicians regarding medical coding practices and collaborate in team environments
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree
- More than 7 years of experience in coding auditing and provider coding
- More than 2 years of experience in a training role
- CPC, CCS, or COC certification mandatory
- Excellent knowledge of multispecialty surgery coding, procedural coding, and HCPCS coding
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Experience in strategic management
- Experience conducting new-hire training
- Experience delivering project-specific training
- Experience handling QA and training teams
- Experience training 50–100 coding employees
- Strong PC skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and internet-based programs
- Knowledge of curriculum development and preparation procedures
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies
- Familiarity with professional coding societies and resources
- Strong oral communication and presentation skills for large groups
- Employee development and performance management skills
- Experience working with physicians on medical coding practices
- Experience working in team environments and/or developing teams
- Ability to share knowledge effectively to enhance learning and application of new skills
