About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, and implement training strategies and programs tailored to surgery coding and coding audit teams
- Conduct strategic needs analyses to identify skill gaps and develop effective training plans
- Develop training modules, presentations, and learning materials based on CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding guidelines
- Keep training materials aligned with medical coding standards, payer requirements, and compliance regulations
- Conduct classroom, virtual, or blended training for new hires, existing staff, and auditors
- Provide coding exercises, case studies, and assessments to reinforce learning and evaluate understanding
- Offer ongoing support, mentoring, and guidance to coding professionals
- Collaborate with SMEs, Quality Auditors, and Compliance Teams on curriculum accuracy and relevance
- Monitor training effectiveness through assessments, performance metrics, and feedback surveys
- Update training materials based on process improvements, audit trends, and regulatory changes
- Ensure training initiatives comply with HIPAA, OIG, and organizational confidentiality standards
- Promote coding accuracy, ethical practices, and compliance adherence
- Partner with audit teams to identify error trends and develop targeted training
- Maintain records of training activities, participation, completion rates, and performance outcomes
- Prepare reports and presentations for management on training effectiveness and performance improvements
- Contribute to performance benchmarks and continuous learning strategies for coding teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- More than 7 years of experience in coding auditing and provider coding
- More than 2 years of experience in a training role
- CPC, CCS, or COC certification mandatory
- Excellent knowledge of multispecialty surgery coding, including procedural and HCPCS coding
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Experience in strategic management
- Experience conducting new-hire training
- Experience delivering project-specific training
- Experience handling QA and training teams
- Experience training 50–100 coding employees
- Strong PC skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and internet-based programs
- Ability to identify and interpret strategic and operational training/development needs
- Ability to develop and implement strategic training and development plans and programs
- Knowledge of curriculum development and preparation procedures
- Ability to design, develop, implement, and evaluate training plans, curricula, and methodologies
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies
- Familiarity with professional coding societies and resources
- Strong oral communication and presentation skills for large groups
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills
- Employee development and performance management skills
- Experience working with physicians regarding medical coding practices
- Experience working in a team environment and/or developing teams
