About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, and implement training strategies and programs tailored to surgery coding and coding audit teams.
- Conduct strategic needs analyses to identify skill gaps and develop training plans that address these gaps effectively.
- Develop comprehensive training modules, presentations, and learning materials based on current procedural terminology (CPT), ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Ensure training materials and processes reflect the latest updates in medical coding standards, payer requirements, and compliance regulations.
- Conduct training sessions (classroom, virtual, or blended) for new hires, existing staff, and auditors on surgery coding concepts, audit standards, and best practices.
- Provide hands-on coding exercises, case studies, and assessments to reinforce learning and evaluate participant understanding.
- Offer ongoing support, mentoring, and guidance to coding professionals to enhance accuracy and productivity.
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Quality Auditors, and Compliance Teams to ensure accuracy and relevance of training materials.
- Monitor training effectiveness through assessments, performance metrics, and feedback surveys.
- Update and refine training materials periodically to reflect process improvements, audit trends, and regulatory changes.
- Ensure that all training initiatives comply with HIPAA, OIG, and organizational confidentiality standards.
- Promote coding accuracy, ethical practices, and adherence to compliance guidelines throughout the training process.
- Partner with audit teams to identify common error trends and develop targeted training to mitigate these issues.
- Maintain detailed records of training activities, participation, completion rates, and performance outcomes.
- Prepare regular reports and presentations for management on training effectiveness, skill development, and performance improvements.
- Contribute to the establishment of performance benchmarks and continuous learning strategies for coding teams.
Requirements
What you’ll need- > 7 years of experience in coding Auditing, provider coding
- >2 years of experience in training role.
- CPC/CCS/COC certification mandatory
- Excellent knowledge of multispecialty surgery coding including procedural coding, HCPCS coding
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Experience in Strategic management
- Experience performing new hire trainings
- Experience in project specific training
- Experience handling QA and Training teams
- Experience in training 50 – 100 coding employees
- Strong PC skills; Excel, Word, PowerPoint and internet-based programs
- Auditing experience on multi-specialty
- Trainer experience
