About the role
- Independently execute site design and drafting with minimal supervision, including grading, layout, and plan set development.
- Perform complex grading tasks such as high-water line (HWL) grading, mass grading, and stormwater management solutions with a focus on cut/fill optimization.
- Design stormwater management systems including culverts, basins, and swales while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Optimize grading strategies for utility-scale solar sites, balancing earthwork efficiency with project constraints.
- Lead development of plan sets, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with client and regulatory expectations.
- Perform quality control reviews and peer reviews of junior staff work to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Review and implement redlines, ensuring compliance with company standards and best practices.
- Prepare engineering reports including SWPPP, stormwater management reports, and Basis of Design (BOD) documentation.
- Analyze site constraints and develop practical engineering solutions to improve constructability and efficiency.
- Participate in client meetings and support technical discussions alongside project managers.
- Respond to engineering inquiries and contribute to resolving project challenges.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment across civil, electrical, and structural design efforts.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, providing guidance on grading, drafting, and design problem-solving.
- Contribute to internal training efforts and support development of team capabilities.
- Track project milestones, deliverables, and timelines to support successful project execution.
- Ensure project documentation is accurate, organized, and complete.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in civil engineering, site design, or stormwater management.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D with experience in grading, stormwater design, and site layout.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles including cut/fill balancing, hydrology, and stormwater management.
- Experience working with design standards, state and local codes, and permitting requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting.
- Familiarity with Bluebeam for QA/QC, markups, and redlining.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical design solutions.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to clearly present technical concepts.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
