About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Drive permitting strategies for large-scale energy and tech projects, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Lead environmental impact assessments that influence project design and execution
Advise developers, optimizing layouts and mitigating risks through innovative permitting solutions
Expand ERM’s market presence through client relationships and development portfolio growth
Manage complex permitting and compliance for energy and technology sector projects, including NEPA, CEQA, and agency-specific regulations
Oversee preparation of permitting documents, environmental reviews, and impact assessment deliverables
Provide technical and project management expertise on permitting strategies, due diligence, and quality control
Prepare proposals and contribute to business development efforts
Collaborate with ERM’s global technical teams to share best practices and deliver high-quality solutions
Manage project budgets and invoices, multiple priorities, junior team members, and multidisciplinary technical teams

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental studies, planning, geography, or related natural resources field—or 8+ years equivalent experience
4+ years of project management and permitting experience in energy, tech, or similar sectors across California or Arizona
Expertise in federal, state, and local permitting and planning
NEPA and CEQA compliance experience
Strong technical writing and communication skills
Ability to manage project budgets and invoices and multiple priorities
Ability to mentor junior team members
Ability to manage multidisciplinary technical teams
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Valid driver's license and/or ability to operate a company vehicle
Frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area
Not eligible for immigration sponsorship
Preferred: experience developing permitting strategies for energy and/or tech projects, including local land use permitting and securing Conditional or Special Use Permits
