About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct intensive pedestrian Class III archaeological survey under the direction of a Crew Chief and/or Principal Investigator.
- Walk systematic survey transects, often covering 10 or more miles per day across uneven, remote, and/or undeveloped terrain.
- Identify, document, and record cultural resources, including prehistoric and historic artifacts, features, sites, isolated finds, and other cultural materials.
- Accurately complete field forms, site records, isolate records, daily logs, and other project documentation.
- Use GPS units, tablets, maps, aerial imagery, and other field equipment to navigate survey areas and record resource locations.
- Assist with mapping archaeological sites, features, artifact concentrations, survey boundaries, and environmental conditions.
- Take clear and accurate field photographs of cultural resources, landscapes, survey conditions, and project areas.
- Conduct limited archaeological testing, as directed, and accurately document testing methods, locations, soil and stratigraphic conditions, artifacts, and other observations needed to support site evaluation and reporting.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology or related field, preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in archaeological field surveying, preferred.
- Archaeological field school a plus.
- Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and on varied terrain.
- Ability to work weekends and over 40 hours per week when needed.
- Working knowledge of archaeological survey protocols.
