About the role
- ERM is seeking a Managing Technical Consultant, Power and Renewables to support domestic Impact Assessment service area focused on permitting, regulatory compliance, and NEPA projects for energy clients primarily in the western US.
- Provide technical consulting support for environmental permitting and compliance associated with development projects including power generation, electrical transmission, and renewable energy projects, with emphasis on NEPA, Clean Water Act Sections 401/404, Endangered Species Act, and equivalent state/local regulations.
- Support large compliance programs in data management and communication role.
- Contribute to preparing impact assessment deliverables; report writing; organizing data collection and survey field work; data and literature review; development of recommendations for clients.
- Collaborate with ERM impact assessment practitioners across offices on environmental impact assessment, land planning, facility siting & permitting, risk assessment and water resources management.
- Complete work in accordance with ERM's management system, format and quality standards, within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
- Interact directly with clients and their SMEs on matters related to biology and environmental science.
Requirements
- Bachelors and/or Masters degree in environmental science/engineering, biology/ecology, planning, or similar field.
- 4+ years of impact assessment and environmental permitting experience, including consulting experience.
- Experience developing and executing corporate impact assessment strategies, preparing regulatory compliance documents for federal and/or state agencies, and providing strategic-level impact assessment support preferred.
- High degree of technical competence and broad knowledge of impact assessment best practices, with a solid grasp of the key impact assessment and management issues within the energy sector.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience writing comprehensive technical reports and standards.
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.
- Driver's License Required.

- Preferred: 6+ years of impact assessment and environmental permitting experience, including consulting experience.
- Prior experience developing NEPA and CEQA documentation; experience with Bureau of Land Management and US Forest Service permitting, and state permitting requirements (AZ, NV, CA, and other western states) an asset.
- Experience permitting projects within the California Coastal Zone under the jurisdiction of either the California Coastal Commission or various Local Coastal Plans is preferred.
